Piercing has been existing since ancient ages in almost all societies, sometimes as an expression of a belief, or as a donatation for belonging a tribe, or just as an ornamentation. Among many different aims, it is even used for testing the power of resistance to pain. In many societies, piercing is the proof of transition from teenage to be a man. In many tribes, clanmen also get tattoos, wristbands, heavy bracelets, chains, stones and reed rings all over their bodies. It is now totally a body ornamentation (aesthetical aim) in our time.

The materials used for piercing are mostly the rings made of surgical steel, titanium, wood, bone, horn, nacre, etc.  But only titanium or surgical steel must be used in first piercing. When a fresh piercing is applied, the body rejects these materials at first time, because all these materials are foreign substances for the body structure. In case of not enough caring for sterilization during piercing, that part of the body bloats, chafes and gets feverish. Such infections can be overcomed by the help of antibiotic pomades and antiseptic solutions. After the piercing operation, the part of the body where piercing was applied, got to be kept clean and the client should carry out the instructions strictly. Otherwise one may face undesirable complications. Also it is expressly essential for the person who applies the piercing, to be a professional who has an efficient health training and experience to hold sufficient anatomical knowledge.
